Legislative Updates

Social Work Licensing Interstate Compact

During the 2024 legislative session, the Florida House of Representatives passed the Social Work Licensure Compact unanimously. Unfortunately, the measure did not advance in the Senate. We are preparing to work with our legislative sponsors once again to reintroduce this critical legislation in the upcoming session, which is scheduled to begin in January. In the Senate, the Health Policy Committee is typically the first stop for this bill, and its leadership plays a crucial role in determining whether it advances.

Since the beginning of August 2025, our Executive Director and Advisory Board members have attended local legislative delegation meetings across the state. These meetings provide an opportunity for community members to present issues directly to their legislators before the session begins. We welcome all members and future members to stand in solidarity with us or to speak during these forums. If you would like to participate, please email us at info.naswfl@socialworkers.org or register for an upcoming meeting on our event page.

For additional information and talking points on the Social Work Licensure Compact, visit swcompact.org or download our handout comparing the Compact with the Florida MOBILE Act and Endorsement process, below.

Our advocacy is truly a grassroots effort, and success depends on the active engagement of our profession. We urge all members to join us in advocating for the Compact and ensuring that Florida social workers have the necessary tools to serve their clients and communities best.
